John,
It was 2 or 3 Black Marines. My understanding is that they worked in the mess hall. One was a SSGT, Corporal and I think L/Cpl. They had twelve grenades buried in the sand by the center pallets. 61 or 62 were injured, 17 were EVAC ed to Japan. They were arrested by the MP's. I was there and helped with the search and Medivacs.
Then
L/Cpl Michael J. Donnelly

I was in the Hosptal at Chu Li in early 1970, I do not remember what happened to me but I woke up in the ER and spent about 4 weeks in the hospital, the injuries consisted of parlisses of the lower extrimites, minor wounds to the back and rt foot. We was on a In country R&R When the rocket attack sirens went off. That is the last I remember until I came to in the ER. I was in the Navy, a Army Officer came into the ward and was passing out the Heart, read my chart and gave me one and congrageutated me, I then told him that I Was In the Navy not Army. and told me the navy would have to Issue the Heart. My Question is not so much for the Heart but what happened to me, there seems to be no records of what happened. Does any Vets know how to interface with the Army for records? I am 60 now and would like to know what happened. I am the recieient of the Viet Nam service ribbion (W/3 bronze stars) and the campaign ribbion. If you can help let me Know.

Hello, I'm a researcher/Journalist from the Veterans Institute in Doorn, The Netherlands. I'm conducting a research of so called 'Dutch veterans with a mission' who took humanitarian initiatives in countrys where they were active as a soldier (f.i. Indonesia, New-Guinee, Lebanon, Cambodja, Afrika, Bosnia etc.). You can look at: www.veteranenmeteenmissie.nl
In our report I'm also referring to similar foreign initiatives like Yours. I would be very grateful if You could help me to obtain some pictures of Your initiatives in Vietnam (f.i. the picture of the marine veteran Earl Gorman on this site), which we can use in our report/book. Ofcourse digital photo's should have enough resolution (300 dpi) to print it! Thanks very much for your attention.

I watched We were Soldiers tonight and it brought back a flood of memories about my deseased brother Richard W. Burns who went to Vietnam in 1968, and came home a different person a year later. He died 16 years ago....from diabetes..at the age of 44. He lived a tormented life, and was a quiet soul. War changes people....youth dies!! My son is now on his way to Baghdad ...left on Thursday morning. He served in Dessert Storm also. I pray for peace on Earth ....but lets not let the war be fought on our soil!!! God Bless you all....you gave so much!! Thank you!
