My name is Harvey L. Williams and served in Viet Nam from 20 Mar 67 to Aug 67. We were assigned in country on a Mission called Project Counter. We came to Viet Nam some 360 strong. Upon entering the country we were cut up into four man teams and distributed all over the country to review supply records and to provide logistical expertise. I was a young dumb 20 year old kid from North Carolina and was scared to death. Upon our arrival I guest we were sent to a processing station at Ben Hoa and Long Bien. During my first night here there was a large explosion not far from us and we were told that the Ammo depot at long bin had been mortared. This event lit up the sky not far from us and this further heighten my fear. We were told that this was constant occurrence, we were also told that several men died during these attacks. The four members of my team were Sgt James Pelham, Spec Sylvester Hills and Pfc Larry Roland. We were first sent to Da Tieng, I believe with a 25th Infantry Div unit. Project Counter members were not assigned to any units that we inspected however, we were administratively attached, so a lot of the units we looked at I can't remember the names and only names of feloows soldiers we worked with. I remember instances of mortar attacks on our compound and a special birthday attack for Ho Che Mien's birthday. I thought I would not make it through that night. During this attacked I watch as our small air station came under attack from the VC and several men died in this effort. As I stated before we were not really a part of these units but we shared guard with them and we defended the compound when required. There was another instance where our fuel bladder depot was mortared and we helped to extinguish the burning fuel by rolling very warm fifty-five gallon drums of assorted fuels away from the larger flames. Two men died during this effort and the men of my team was written up for acts of bravery, however, it was never officially submitted up the chain. Our mode of transport throughout the country was convey and helo transport. During one of these moves from Da Tieng to Cu Chi we can under a small attack after two of our trucks hit land mines. There are several other instances of the war that still rest with me and my family. I have been married four times with my issues and I am currently in the process of filing a claim with VA for these experiences. I ask any of you who may know anything regarding the occurrences above or any names of individuals that my have been with us during these occurrences please either email me at hwilliams001@embarqmail.com or call at 252-937-9946. I have tried to contact the members of my team with no success, hopefully some of you may remember us, at least I hope so. Even if you have no information and you knew us please contact me, it would be great to correspond with anyone that served with us during this time. Sgt Pelham and Spec Hills are from Hopewell, VA and I believe Pfc Roland was from either Kansas or Missouri.
Thank all of you for allowing me to serve with you.
V/R

I must be one of a few people who remember coming in country,Cam Ran Bay. Later to Can Tho and then to Soc Trang. I became a crew chief with the Soc Trang "Tigers", Tiger 10 was my UH-1H. I switched off with other crew chiefs to get more flying time and to learn how to fly the Huey's. I learn to fly UH-1D's and H's. I saw a great deal of combat in the 44th Special Zone along the cambodian border. I traveled far and wide to places like Bien Hoa, Ca Mau, Moc Hoa, Chau Doc, My Tho, Dong Tam, Rach Ga, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh, Sa Dec, Long Xuyen, Saigon, and more places north around and above "Little Corpus Christie".
I served with Lt.Darling, pilot and CW04 Schmidt, they taught me how to fly Hueys. I served with David Zcerpicki, David Dela Peza, George Quackenbush, Dennis Wall, Richard Petty (CrewChief), Charlie Burgess, Charlie Martinez, Ruben Carbajal, Alejandro Rubidoueax, Danny Ramanski, to just name a few.
We saw Viet Cong kill themselves in suicide bombings through the constintina wire, monks setting themselves on fire, Bombings from B-52's, miniguns fired from Huey gunships, Loch's, and Puff. Motrar and rocket attacks that just rocked the Soc Trang camp. I spent a year and a half their. I remember the lousy guard duty and horrific hours in the hot weather working on the Huey's to get them washed, serviced, tested and flown on missions again. I found it better to talk about the experiences and let it go. How about those poisonous snakes, krates. And those pythons. Bugs everywhere and Momma Sans washing clothes. Just a few thoughts. Anyone serve in the Army Aviation 13th battalion, 121st Assault Helicopter Company.?
