We fought hard and alongside the americans during the Vietnam War and we deserve to be heard for that...i cant believe you guys didnt put the Hmongs on the "Our Allies" section...what a shame...We died and bled to death and sacrificed our lives to help downed American pilots during the war...we fought and defended villages and American troops ans American bases...we should never be forgotten...The Hmongs...

Thank you for such an informative website on Vietnam. I am a daughter of a Marine Corp Vietnam veteran. I was born in 1967, he was serving in Vietnam at the time. I was 3 when he came home. He never spoke of his years in Vietnam, he was a supply officer. I attempted to do a research paper in highschool (1984) on Vietnam, but couldn't get him to say anything about it, nor did I find a lot of information on it. Of course in highschool, we never studied the Vietnam War, we never made it past WWII. My father now suffers from Post Traumatic Syndrome. I always assumed he was in a non-threatened area during the crisis, being a supply officer. But it has come out, that he dealt with quite a lot. Anyway, thank you for educating me on a land and it's people which has played a part in my family's history.

I was stationed at FASU Danang from Oct 71 - Nov 72. This is the first time I've ever seen any mention of the place. I stayed in till 78 but bailed after one of my daughters wouldn't talk to me for two months after returning from a 6 month WestPac that lasted 8 months. Still the best 9 years of my life. I met a lot of wonderful people. Without the kids, I would have stayed 30. God bless all of you old vets and to the new vets also.

I went on 106 night patrols and 96 ambush patrols with H&S co. 3rd Tanks from August '65 till May'66.
Woke up in a tent on a hospital bed at Charlie med on May 7...don't know how I got there or what happened. Pulled perimiter guard there and helped corpmen at night decide who they would operate on next as the marines laid on pallets and bury body parts along the north perimiter as amputations were commom. I left vietnam on August 26 1966. Haven't slept well since.

I was with the 42nd Ord Det (EOD) in 1970 in Bien Hoa. DiAn was in my AO. I remember getting a call on a Sunday morning from DiAn. A group of tanks and PCs were standing down, off loading ammo in the ASP. The ASP was across the street from the chapple, services were in progress. Apparently, as ammo was taken off one of the tracks, a trip flare went off, caught a box of ammo on fire. As a result of the fire and explosions in the ASP, stuff was blown all over the base. You guys gave my EOD team a full week of work. Was kind of interesting, lots of 40 MM rounds blown around. The 40 MMs were always a problem and the standard method of disposal was to blow them in place if they had been fired or otherwise involved in fires or explosions. We couldn't to that -just too many. Just loaded them into a trailer (carefully), hauled them to the range and took care of them there. High pucker-factor stuff. Anyone got any information on that ASP fire? Anyone get hurt?

Nice to find this site served with the 3rd 506th Abn. Inf. 101st Airborne Div. RVN 1967-1968. Our base camp was LZ Betty Phan Thiet. Things got jumping on Jan. 30th. just like everywhere else. I don't think that history has clearly shown that we gave Charllie and the NVA far more than they expected. Westmoreland was right it could have been the point for complete military victory in Viet Nam. But LBJ and Congress were to worried about public opion to let us finish the deal right then. Just one paratroopers take on the whole mess. Will check your site often. If anyone is interested check out the 3rd 506th website @ Currahee.org. lots of Nam Vets from ' 67 on with links to other interesting sites. Best of luck to all.

I was an ardent patriot, of the "love it or leave it" kind, in the 60's until my brother came home from Vietnam with stories and friends--less lucky--returned in body bags. So then I held candles in the park at peace vigils and sang peace songs. I was not against our troops, but for them, for bringing them home alive. And when they returned, I celebrated. I still do. I am ever glad for the return of all of you who survived and who continue to make America a better place in which to live through your involvement and efforts with your families, employment, and through efforts like Vets With A Mission.

During the first Persian Gulf War, our local Vietnam Vets association kicked up a notch a project I'd initiated to send boxes of supplies and letters to troops. Too, it involved a call-in radio show where people could relate messages to loved ones serving in the Gulf. There we were, hippies, soldiers, and some who didn't care one way or another about Vietnam (but whose children were now in the Gulf), standing side by side packing up boxes of lip balm, tapes of the radio call-in program, sun screen, deodorant, paperbacks, letters from school children, and more.

As a college prof, I've taught units on the literature of war (including Tim O'Brien's stories and numerous websites of poetry by Vets), but I found your website tonight in my research for a novel I'm writing in which the heroine's dad served in Vietnam and ended his tour of duty shortly after the Tet Offensive. It provides me with an objective history of American involvement in Indochina and a wealth of voices about that experience from those who knew it firsthand. I thank you. More, I hope all of you Vietnam Vets know how very glad America is for your safe return.

Blessings,

Kate
