Spec5 ,,was in Nam '68-69" unit was Hq.Hq. 8th. Engineer, 1St.Air Cav. Trained to work on generators, i became friends with the guy who welded and he taught me well enough that I took over his job when he went home. Worked on a lot of projects at Camp Evans. Was there for the big ammo dump and fuel bladder explosions. Thought the world was coming to an end. Got the job of welding sheets of steel onto and under a dozer, and 2 brave or stupid guys drove it over the remaining live rounds. Luckily they both were not hurt and they recieved silver stars for their action. ( of course they probably can't hear anything anymore). Was also there when the shinook and C130 crashed into each other, killing our guys who were on their way home. Luckily I was on the other side of the base or I would have been the one who had to cut the wreckage up looking for bodys.......1 St Air Cav moved to Phouc Vinh. Had a lot of guys bring me what looked like impossible items to fix, but 'somehow' they all got taken care of. Had a Sergeant over there, SSG. Richard W. Howard,, I sure would like to know his where abouts. Just a great guy. Anyone with info please contact me. ( cuzbro@aol.com) I have a cassette recording of a speach he made to us when it looked like we were going to get hit hard. Also anyone who remembers me, send a shout. Raggs, Johnny Johnson, Coon-dog,,,,, even the guy that smoked weed and fell asleep during guard duty, and I woke up with the barrel of his m-16 when I pulled rounds............:-) Welcome home to all that made it. God bless those that didn't......

I was @ LZ Nancy from Dec. 68' to May 69'. I was in Co. C 14th Engr. When we got there we were in tents for awhile and then built our own hooches. Tin roof and plywood walls with screens, surrounded by sand bags. On my first mine sweep we caught sniper fire. When it was over our squad leader was no where in site. When we returned to LZ he had removed his gear from our hooch. We never saw him again. Our new squad leader was a hard stripe corporal we called Red. If anyone remembers me please contact.

Hi Fellow Viet-Vets:

My name is Larry Nakashima, I to am a vet that served in march 1976-68 in many different area in Vietnam.

I am trying find-out what and where ammunition dump I was in when it was hit with enemy rockets, from the hills. I just got off guard duty and I awaked with the ammo in the burms exploding. I think they were artillery shells stored there. All we could do to protect ourselves was to lay against the dirt berms and hope that we did not get injured. I must have this information for my PTSD claim. I have to prove I was affected by what had happened that night. I remember the names of some of the guys I served with in that dump, and hope that someone reading this can help me. Names: John Mahoney NY, John Terranova NY, Gil Haney from Alabama and Tim Mahoney NY no relation to John.

If anyone can help me, My email address is larrynakashima@yahoo.com. Please let me know.

Thank you
